New place and (fingers crossed) job

I got the flat! It's really nice. The place has been recently renervated. So everything inside is brand new. Its been a busy week and I've been in full blast find a job mode. It's surprisingly hard to find a job in London. I've asked in heaps of different stores and it seems no one is recruiting. I was hoping to find any old job to pay the bills while I shopped around for a good IT job. But alas it seems almost easier to find work in IT.

I took an online test for a super market job which I passed and automatically made it to interview level (how strange), where I proceeded to book my interview time online. Anyways yesterday I received a phone call saying that I live to far for the job and should keep an eye open for positions closer to my home. The job was in the city maybe 40 mins away!!! They should be desperate for workers. It was just a check out chick job. I would have thought that if I wanted to spend 40 mins on the tube every day that was my choice.

Anyways I have an IT job interview tomorrow as a network admin doing 1st/2nd line support stuff. It sounds pretty cushy compared to what I was doing in Syd which will be a nice change. The catch is its shift work. I work 7 days straight and then have 7 days off. And my hours are even crazier. For 7 days I do 11pm to 8am. Then a week off. Then 2pm to 11pm for 7 days. Then another week of and it repeats its self.

I have no idea what this would do to ones body clock. I can't image it would be good. But 7 days off out of every 14 sounds to good! So I'm going to give it a try. Has anyone ever done shift work like this? Is it a bad idea or what?

Wish me luck for tomorrow.

the DREADNAUGHT HONORIFICA

first of all RIP my Finch; Captain James "Jamie" Watergate, who passed away yesterday morn. His death is not being treated as suspicious.

and now the comissioning of the nu ship Dreadnaught Honorifica which has been accepted into service as JSB Dreadnaught Honorifica.

Dreadnaught in respect to popular demand, and Honorifica in respect to Captain Watergate.

The vessel was celebrated with a crushing netball victory and a pleasant stint on the D-floor at Mona.

Heres a picture with the happy pilot in full combat regalia.

PS .. the size of the image was 666k !!! awesome

A New Car

I put down the balance for a new Car yesterday ...

She's a 1998 Toyota Camry Sedan, shes in good shape, apart from 250,000 or so klicks on the counter.

Hopefully this won't be a problem due to the Camry's uber engine reliability. I also got her for well under the market price for other '98 Camry's. She'll be delivered later this week (assuming no cock ups) then i'll be sorting out my number plates to be put on and then there will be some sort of Commisioning Ceremony.

Perhaps in time for Mona this Thursday night? I have a shortlist of names prepared for the Car, but i'll wait for post-Ceremony to officially announce. The shortlist at this stage is;

1) Halberd 2) Warhorse 3) Warhammer 4) Dreadnaught 5) Carrack

The nature of the names have been influenced by the Car's "Elder gentlemen/veterans" feel to it.

(fyi: my last 2 cars were the "JSB Ida May" and the "JSB Mandate of Fury")

Shes also a greenish-bluish colour. Man I have to much time on my hands.

Little did I know it was going to be incompatible with my Asus motherboard.

Confound it I thought ! blast and balderdash ! Whatever shall I do ....

So i tried calling Plus Corporation the "Friendly IT company" i bought it from ....

Salesman: how may i help you?
Jon: I bought 2 sticks of Ram today from you guys, but upon installation it looks like theres a compatibility problem with my Asus motherboard, i'm not sure if you can help me, but any ideas what I can do?
Salesman: Oogidy Boogidy FIXED !
""Salesman hangs up""

Unfortunately his over the phone sorcery didnt work, and im down $166 and with two seemingly inoperable pieces of RAM

Does anyone have or know someone who has an Asus motherboard ? If so what RAM do you/they use ?

Aight

I'm still camping in London looking for a flat to rent with Chris and Andrea. On Friday Glenn's credit card came so he went up to his grandparents. But he kindly left his tent and now Chris has moved in, so I've still got someone to keep me sane. Because everyone else at this campsite seems to be loco!

Chris and I have decided on a place and made an application and are waiting to see if we are accepted. It's a very nice place, brand new kitchen, two large twin bedrooms, a small back yard with no garden (so no weeding) but has been decked and is perfect for a BBQ. And there are two lounges to crash on in a tiny living room for any of you planning to visit London over the next year!

I just hope we get the place... Then I move onto the next challenge, work! Anyone got any contacts in the UK?
